HKU Launches Inaugural Employer-Talent Speed UP 2026
Bridging Students and Industry Leaders for Future Success
19 Jan 2026
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) hosted the inaugural Employer-Talent Speed UP 2026 event at Loke Yew Hall on 16 January 2026. Organised by the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS), this signature event brought together 60 student ambassadors across faculties and schools, along with over 100 employer representatives from sectors including banking and finance, technology, engineering, professional services, retail, healthcare, property, construction and real estate, public sector and NGOs.
Designed as an interactive and professional exchange platform, the event addressed the talent acquisition needs of employer partners while bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world industry insights. Employers and students participated in matched group networking sessions and cross-sector dialogues, fostering the exchange of fresh perspectives and industry trends. Employers gained authentic insights into HKU students’ academic strengths and career aspirations, while students developed essential professional communication and networking skills, increasing their confidence in engaging with industry leaders.
These exchanges went beyond simple introductions, sparking in-depth discussions on innovation, career trends, and the evolving demands of the workforce. The dynamic interactions deepened the mutual understanding between employers and students, supporting their transition from campus to career and equipping them to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Professor Kelvin Yeung, Dean of Student Affairs said, “As we celebrate 115 years of excellence, we remain deeply committed to equipping our students with the knowledge, global perspectives and skills that matter most for the future. Our top ranking in Asia and strong reputation for graduate employability reflect our dedication to connect talent with opportunity. We are truly grateful to our employer partners for their unwavering support and trust. HKU Employer-Talent Speed UP 2026 is more than a networking event, it is a testament to HKU’s mission to nurture and inspire future leaders who will drive positive change both locally and globally.”
Looking ahead, Professor Yeung also underscored the University’s forward-thinking approach:
“At HKU, we are embracing the future by integrating artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary learning into our core curriculum to empower students with the digital, analytical, and soft skills that employers value most.”
Employer partners praised the event’s impact and HKU’s commitment to talent development:
Ms. Neo Sheena, Head of Early Careers, The Bank of New York, said: “Engaging with HKU students at this event gave us a clear view of their passion, curiosity, and readiness to address real-world challenges. Opportunities like this help us refine our hiring strategies and identify the next generation of innovators who will shape our industry’s future.”
Mr. Ross Hui, Head of Remuneration and Planning, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, said: “Employer-Talent Speed UP is pivotal in building a strong talent pipeline. I am impressed by HKU students’ professionalism and adaptability which I have great confidence in their ability to thrive and lead in any organisations and beyond.”
This initiative exemplifies HKU’s strategic emphasis on promoting university-employer partnerships, interdisciplinary learning, and a robust campus-to-career ecosystem. Through these ongoing efforts, HKU continues to lead in equipping students to excel in diverse fields and contribute meaningfully to Hong Kong’s position as a regional and global talent hub.
