The American Mathematical Society (AMS) has recognised forty-one distinguished mathematical scientists from around the world as Fellows of the AMS for 2025. Among this year’s honourees, Professor Xuhua HE, Chair Professor from the Department of Mathematics at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), has been named a Fellow in recognition of his significant contributions to the field.
Recognised by their peers, AMS members designated as Fellows of the AMS have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilisation of mathematics. This year’s class was selected from a large and excellent pool of candidates, highlighting the many ways that individuals advance their profession.
Reflecting on this achievement, Professor He stated: "I am deeply honoured to be named an AMS Fellow. This award not only acknowledges my work but also highlights the remarkable mathematical research being conducted at HKU. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues and students, and I look forward to continuing our journey of discovery and innovation in mathematics. I believe that ongoing support and recognition are essential for advancing scientific research and discovery."
Professor He joined HKU in 2023. His research areas include arithmetic geometry, algebraic groups, and representation theory. His work on finite and affine Weyl groups, and flag varieties, has gained wide recognition for its innovative approaches and applications.
In recognition of his work, Professor He has received several honours, including being named Tencent’s New Cornerstone Investigator in 2023. He was also awarded the AMS Chevalley Prize in Lie Theory 2022, and the Xplorer Prize (Mathematics and Physics) in 2020. Additionally, he received the prestigious Morningside Gold Medal of Mathematics in 2013.
The American Mathematical Society strives to advance research and connect the diverse global mathematical community through publications, meetings and conferences, MathSciNet, professional services, advocacy, and awareness programmes.
