The University of Hong Kong (HKU) held a flag-raising ceremony at Grand Hall of the Lee Shau Kee Lecture Centre in the Centennial Campus to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) today (Oct 1).
Council Chairman Ms Priscilla Wong Pui-sze, President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang , Council and Senate members, Faculty Deans, staff members and students at the University, as well as invited guests, attended the ceremony.
The HKU Yue Rong Dance Troupe gave a performance of classical and contemporary Chinese dances after the ceremony. Characterised by graceful movements, intricate footwork, and expressive gestures, the performance narrated tales from Chinese history, folklore, and literature, thereby showcasing China’s rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions to the attendees in celebration of this important occasion.
The flag-raising ceremony symbolises HKU's commitment to the development of our nation and its integral role in Hong Kong's past, present, and future. As HKU celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the University reaffirms its pledge to contribute to the development of Hong Kong into an International Education hub while remaining steadfast in pursuing academic excellence and knowledge creation for the benefit of Hong Kong, our nation, and the world.
